Quotebook #11

Quotebook

I’m not the type of person to physically write in a book (it pains me!), but I am a “flagger”. There are so many talented authors out there that have an incredible way with words, and reading them once just isn’t enough for me. So, I will highlight quotes or sections in an e-book, or literally put a little flag sticky on a page while I’m reading. I’ll then revisit my flags or highlights and write down the memorable words in a notebook. In this feature, I plan to share some of my favorite quotes with you! Up today:

Always remember that the thrill of the view is worth the terror of the climb.

The Last Thing You Said by Sara Biren

This quote is a reminder that I need more often than I wish that I did. I take two things away from it:

  • You will miss so many experiences in life if you’re living in fear
  • Sometimes, things in life require a little bit of hard work, but that the end result is worth it

A good reminder to get out there, be brave, and life live!

You are so worried about what’s happened before and what will happen next that you forgot there’s a now.

The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron

It never ceases to amaze me how this world that we live in works in mysterious ways. I stumbled across this quote at exactly the right moment in my life. Recently I was hit with some news that I wasn’t expecting with regards to my job. That news has me reflecting backwards on my career thus far and where I want to go in the future. Basically… it’s time to make some grown up decisions, and I’m seriously freaking out. I’ve been all consumed with figuring out where I want to go from here, and it’s been hindering my ability to live in the now. This is me acknowledging that I’ve been a total Debbie Downer and that everyone around me now has permission to smack me in the face if I’m being all “woe is me”. While I’m not skirting my responsibilities to actually make adult decision, I need to stop letting it consume me and take away from everything else going on in my life. I already hate myself for even thinking this, but I’m going to write it anyways… YOLO. *cringe* I’m sorry. Forgive me for that.

You endure what is unbearable, and you bear it.

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Short, simple, and perfect! In the book, this quote is stated when characters are speaking about death and how to handle losing someone that you love. As someone who has lost more people than she ever should have at the age of 27, I can honestly say that this quote is spot on for that situation. When dealing with loss, it’s painful, it’s heartbreaking, and it’s utterly unbearable, but the only thing you can do is bear it. It’s not fun, it’s not pretty, but you do it, and things get better with time. Moving away from the morbid, this quote is perfect for a lot of scenarios, actually. For example, I’m personally trying to get back into a regular workout routine, and it’s hard. I’m uncomfortable, I’m way out of shape, and I want to quit because I’m not as good as I want to be. But, I’m bearing it, no matter how hard it seems, because I know that it will get better. So, when times get tough, and whatever you’re dealing with is unbearable, just stay strong, bear it, and you’ll come out so much better on the other side. Not your usual “inspirational” quote, but a good one to refer to.

That’s the thing they never tell you about love stories: just because one ends, that doesn’t mean it failed.

When We Collided by Emery Lord

This is just one of many amazing quotes that I read and fell in love with in When We Collided. I found this quote thought provoking, and looking back, I can honestly say that I learned something from each person that I dated and each boyfriend that I have had along the way. Whether it was something about live, or something about me, I have a key takeaway, for lack of a better word, from each of them. They’ve all helped to mold me into the person that I am today, and that’s something to be grateful for.

But your life is yours, singular and sacred, and you should be with the person who makes it feel that way every blessed second you live it.

 The Crown by Kiera Cass

If you’ve read my review of The Crown, then you’ll know that my love for this book is pretty limited. This quote, however, is brilliant and beautiful. It’s a wonderful reminder that you should be with someone who makes you the best person that you are. A person who compliments you and accepts you, not someone who tries to change you.

“What are friends for, if not to make you feel less weird?”

– Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon

(you can also check out my review for this book here)

The Memorial Day holiday is just around the corner, and for me that means a super awesome long weekend with friends, followed immediately by the second annual family vacation with my parents, sisters, and brother in law! WOOHOO! Helloooo fun times, relaxation, booze, and books! Anyways, given all the fun on the horizon, I thought this quote was appropriate because I openly admit that I’m a pretty weird person, but my friends and my family are equally as weird, so it’s wonderful! It’s a big weird reunion, and we have tons of fun, and I seriously cannot wait! Things in my adult life have been super crazy, so much work traveling and stress, so I’m more than ready to get off the grid (literally, all this is happening at my family’s campground in the middle of nowhere, where we barely get cellphone reception) and get weird.

“Life doesn’t have to be so planned. Just roll with it and let it happen.”

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Summer is finally almost here and I couldn’t be more excited! Along with the sunshine and warmer weather also comes SO. MANY. POSSIBLE. ACTIVITIES. AND. ADVENTURES. Being an aggressively organized person, I schedule my weekends way in advance so that I can have a plan in place and a good understanding of where I need to be and what I’m going to be doing. But… there is just something that happens during the summer that sparks my spontaneity. I just start throwing caution to the wind and begin rolling with whatever life throws my way. I must say, it’s awesome! I wish I could do it more often, but no matter how hard I try to just live and be spontaneous, I can’t always will myself to do it, except in the summer. So, cheers to summer, and cheers to this quote and living life with no plan (at least as much as I can)!

“I tried so hard to live in your world,” she told him. “Now it’s your turn to live in mine.”

The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski

This is my quote today because I’m a huge proponent of living your best life, and making changes when you need to that ensure you really are living your best life. Life is far too short to change the person that you are to appease others around you. Nobody has time to live a life that they don’t enjoy, “You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.” Yes, I totally just snuck in another quote from Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

Anyways, recently I’ve been seeing a lot of people around me struggling with this, and I myself sometimes fall into ruts where I struggle with this. This quote is a reminder that while life is about compromises, it is not one sided. You deserve to life whatever life is going to make you happy, and you shouldn’t have to bend so much so that the life and world that you’re living is completely unrecognizable.
